Last night the Jr. Highers had a really fun SNAC Night where we played dodgeball, sardines, and capture the flag. Thanks for coming out for it! Mr. and Mrs. B and Seth and I all had a great time. This Friday is open Gym Night for Middle School so if you want to come, bring lots of friends and join us at the church at 6pm until 10pm. We will be sure to bring some good games

Also… Keep up the good work on your purity lessons, I know we are teaching you all, but Seth and I both feel like we are the ones learning the most. (We have so much to learn from others about teaching and leading!) Thanks for the opportunity and for all the parents that drive your Middle Schoolers all over the place!

This past week and for the next three weeks the Jr. Highers are going to be going over PURITY. Seth and I have split up the girls and the guys to get to be more one-on-one with them. The title of the lesson plans we are working through is “Not Even a Hint” and focuses on Ephesians 5:3. I am really excited to go through this topic with the girls and really get our heads in the game, because it is a constant struggle EVERYDAY to keep your thoughts and actions pure. Over the next few weeks we will have demonstrations, guest speakers and maybe even a prize or two. I can’t wait to dive in deeper!

Don’t Forget, Middle School SNAC night at 7pm on May 1st!

(Mr. B)

God wonderfully saved me when I was just 4 years old. Throughout my life I have always had the freedom knowing that God loves me and keeps me within His care. I married Mrs B many many years ago and we have seen God’s faithfulness in many wonderful ways. We had 3 children who are now young adults who make me very pleased to be their dad. I love working in the Middle School and it is my desire to see them grow in their relationship with Christ and enjoy all the blessings He has for them.

Cindy Baker

(aka Mrs. B. or Mama B.)

I was born and raised in a Christian home, the youngest of four kids. My dad was a preacher and we were always active in our local church. I was saved at the age of 4 when I asked my mom how I could know for sure I would go to heaven and she showed me from God’s Word my need to repent of my sin and turn to Christ as my Savior. As a teenager, I was a rather rebellious kid and got involved in many things that were not honoring to God. Thankfully, at the age of 19, I came back to Christ and have desired to fully serve Him with my life since that time. I married my best bud in 1984 and God has blessed us with 3 amazing kids and a great son-in-law. We worked with the Jr. High/Middle School for nearly 8 years when our kids were involved, then took several years off to minister with adults. The Lord let us back into the Middle School in 2010 and we look forward to training and encouraging these fantastic kids for many more years.

For the past few days God and I have been having a dialogue about my plans vs. His plans. Needless to say, He is winning. I am amazed at how many times I do my best to organize, coordinate, and plan my life and yet I forget that it’s not about me. When I got married I began to realize how selfish I am. Then once I had children, I discovered I was REALLY selfish. Lately I am figuring out that I am really selfish in regards to my plans. I am only concerned with how my life affects me with little concern to what God may think and how my actions may impact others.

He has been bringing a couple of verses to mind that I thought I would share:

Prov. 19:21 Many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
Prov. 16:9 In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps.
1 Tim 6:6 Godliness with contentment is great gain.

I love the fact that God is patient with me. I don’t what you are going through, but can I encourage you to continue to trust on God? His plans are perfect because He is perfect.

Hey! Just wanted to say thanks for everybody that came to SNAC night! It was super fun for Seth and I. We played dodgeball as well as sardines and it was kinda fun to re-visit all my good old hiding spaces . It’s a lot different with cell phones though…

Also, I am sure that Cindy Baker will post the pictures on her facebook soon, so if you can’t figure out what the jr. highers are doing in the pictures, I will give ya a head’s up. They are scooting oreos across their faces, minute-to-win-it style! Jake and Nate even figured out how to flip them up and catch them in their mouths! I was actually pretty impressed. (Seth and I can’t be held responsible for any oreo-related eye injuries. lol)

The past two weeks Sam Baker has taught the lessons for everyone and is talking over the topic of Satan and temptation. We sometimes forget that someone is out there attacking our witness and purity and desperately wants us to fail at everything God has planned for us. His lesson has really got me thinking about what I may have missed out on that God had in store for me because of my sin. But isn’t it great that we have a way out of all our tempting situations? That we are already FORGIVEN? Boo ya, Satan.

P.S.~ any ideas on slumber parties/upcoming activities? let me know @ amber.june1@yahoo.com. Thanks!

David Crowder and Lecrae teamed up on a new song called Shadows and I love the lyrics. Thought I would share the lyrics and a couple thoughts as I know several of our students are in the midst of some shadows right now.

Life is full of light and shadow
Oh. the joy and oh, the sorrow, oh, the sorrow

And yet, will He bring dark to light
And yet, will He bring day from night

When shadows fall on us
We will not fear
We will remember
When darkness falls on us
We will not fear
We will remember
When all seems lost
When we’re thrown, and we’re tossed
We’ll remember the cost
We’re resting in the shadows of the cross

With every breath I take, with every heart beat,
Sunrise and the moon lights in the dark street
Every glance, every dance, every note of a song
It’s all a gift undeserved that I shouldn’t have known
Every day that I lie, every moment I covet
I’m deserving to die, I’m just earning your judgment
I, without the cross there’s only condemnation
If Jesus wasn’t executed there’s no celebration
So in times that are good, in times that are bad
For any times that I’ve had it all I will be glad
And I will boast in the cross, I boast in my pains
I will boast in the sunshine, boast in his reign (rain)
What’s my life if it’s not praising you
Another dollar in my bank account of vain pursuit, I do
That count my life as any value or precious at all
Let me finish my race, let me answer my call

I’m so thankful for the reminder from the Psalmist that “the Lord is my light and my salvation- whom shall I fear? the Lord is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be afraid? Can I encourage you to rely on God even when he doesn’t seem to be there? I promise you He is. (Rom 8:26-28) We are never promised a life with no “shadows and sorrow” but we are promised that God will always be with us. (Deut 31:6)

I grew up in First Baptist Danville and I just can’t leave. I love everything about it, the sermons, the worship, and how we are constantly growing, changing and seeking God’s direction. As a new Jr. High leader, I really enjoy playing games with the (pre) teens and can’t wait to dive even deeper into events and activities this summer. Some things I enjoy are hanging out with my husband, Seth, cooking, and party planning.

Seth Flater

I grew up going to Bethesda Baptist church. After attending Tri-West high school (where I first met Amber), I attended Wabash College, and I now have my math degree. After I graduated in May of 2010, I proposed and Amber and I were married this past November. We jumped into the Jr. High that month. I love getting to know the guys and teaching lessons. Amber and I are learning SO MUCH and have a lot more to learn about this age group and how to teach. We can’t wait for this summer to get outside and really see a side of the Jr. Highers we might not know yet. Thanks for this serving opportunity!

Hello! It’s Amber, and I will be blogging for the Jr. High class for this year With the crazy holiday season, and new teachers taking over in January, we haven’t gotten to attend many events or do fun activities. But Seth and I are SO EXCITED for spring and what the Bakers have in store. Recently the guys and girls split up this past Saturday night and the girls went with me to the F.I.G.H.T. Like a R.E.A.L. Girl event at the fairgrounds in Danville. What I expected to be a lame-o open convention with booths turned out to be a rocking /inspirational speaking /totally life challenging event! With a band singing Miley Cyrus and dancing it up to a Karate expert breaking boards over her head, I was completely shocked and realized 1) that I needed to brush up on my research/youtube skills and 2) how awesome our little town of Danville has become at bringing up the issues girls do face today and attacking them in a fun and very educational way. Way to go Get Real inC.! You can check out their site at http://www.getrealinc.org. It was awesome and I can’t wait to get ALL of our girls there next year!

As for the boys, they had a little fun over at our house playing video games and eating pizza. I know they had fun, because Seth was exhausted, and our house is still a little disheveled

Next Sunday (March 5th) We are having a SNAC night where we will be having desserts and hopefully some fun games in the gym (or maybe outside?) Bring your play clothes!

Thanks! Amber Flater

It has been said that, “not only do we not pray enough, but we also don’t pray BIG enough”. While we are content to pray for trivial things like sports games, tests (that we didn’t study for), and the hope of a great day God has so much more he wants to do through us. Paul reminds us in Ephesians 3:20 that God is able to immeasurably MORE than all we ask or imagine. I wonder what life would look like if we started to pray BIGGER. Our God, the one who created the universe, and holds all things together is able to do so much more than what we ask for.

I am challenging you to pray for more than just the trivial. Pray for God to do something HUGE. He is a big God and completely capable. I am going to start praying for some BIG things. Will you join me? Comment below on some BIG things we can pray for together.
